Grow media refers to the substrate in which the roots of your plants grow, such as soil, coco or Rockwool. Choosing the right growing media for your indoor plants is essential, good quality media will help your plants establish strong roots and speedy growth. The more air and correct nutrients you can supply to these roots, the better for both the quality and quantity of your harvest.

Different Types of Grow Media

There are several different options available to you when choosing the media to grow your plants in. And each one is suitable for various feeding systems. For instance, plants in hydroponic systems can benefit from clay pebbles as they provide lots in which to establish a strong root network.

Systems such as NFT and Aeroponics require minimal growing media, such as a single 4” Rockwool cube. While Flood and Drain systems make use of large pots and therefore require more media to work with.

For many growers, deciding between the different types of grow media for plants comes down to personal choice, to help you make yours here’s a brief guide to the different types of growing media we stock:

• Coco Coir. Made from the husk of coconuts, coco provides high levels of aeration and incredible drainage that delivers superior root growth, resulting in strong, healthy plants with massive yields.

• Organic/Soil. Organic growing is becoming increasingly popular - and with good reason! You can now grow top-quality produce at home that’s guaranteed to be free of any unwanted chemicals/pesticides.

• Rockwool. Rockwool is the perfect hydroponic media as it holds the ideal ratio of air to water. It gives growers precision control of irrigation whilst delivering maximum nutrient absorption, resulting in impressive and tasty crops.

• Clay Pebbles. Ideal to use alone in hydroponics systems or mixed with coco as flood and drain media. You can also line the bottom of pots for better drainage in any soil, coco or hydroponic grow mediums.
