Non return valves prevent liquids flowing back down pipe the wrong way for instance when a pump stops in a run to waste brain the liquid would flow back down the pipe into the brain, raising the levels and activating the float switch again so the pump keeps cycling and can also become air locked and not function properly.

Install a non return valve on drip systems and run to waste brains to ensure correct operation.
